Steacy Stables

Steacy Stables have been training standardbred race horses since the 1970’s when Mark and his father Clarke Steacy Sr. owned 8 to 10 horses at the old Kingston Park Raceway. Fast forward to 2022 where Mark and members of his family operate a stable of 50+ horses at two locations. Mark and his wife Kathy split their time between the original homestead stable in Lansdowne, Ontario and First Line Training Centre near Mohawk Raceway.

The Lansdowne Stable, managed by Mark and his youngest son, Clarke Jr., is used during the Fall and Winter to break and train down the yearlings purchased from the annual Fall sales, as well as race older horses at Rideau Carleton Raceway and Kawartha Downs. Horses with injuries or requiring a break from racing would also be sent to the Lansdowne location for rest and recovery. Approximately 28 horses, which includes all the yearlings (about 20 each year) are located at the Lansdowne Stable.

The other Steacy Stable, located at First Line Training Centre near Mohawk Raceway, is managed by Mark and his oldest son Shawn. All horses that race at Mohawk and other Western Ontario tracks are stabled at First Line. Also, when the yearlings turn two in Lansdowne and are ready to be tested on the racetrack, they are all sent to the First Line Stable to continue their training and start their racing career. At any one time, there could be between 30 and 50 horses at the First Line Stable. Between the two stables there are approximately 16 employees.

Steacy Stables, is a true family operation. Not only does Mark’s wife Kathy play a significant role in the administrative operation of the Stables, but Shawn’s wife Natasha and Clarke’s wife Cara, as well as Mark’s brother Mike work for the Stable.
