Our STORY

The LANDMARK STORY

In 2005, the Standardbred Breeders of Ontario Association (SBOA) organized the New Owners Mentorship Program which created a group of ten people and they chose Mark Steacy to be their trainer. Each of the new owners contributed $4,000 to purchase one yearling and pay for one year of training. When that group dispersed, Mark and his father Clarke asked the group if they would like to continue with a new group stable and five individuals said yes. Howard Pearce, a friend of Mark and Clarke agreed to administer the program and 11 new people were found and the first LandMark group was formed each paying $5,000. In 2013, after 6 years of operation the shares were reduced to $2,000 and the number of people grew to over 50. Each year a new LandMark group is formed and again will purchase as many well-bred yearlings as possible. New members are always welcome, so come join our LandMark family.

COMMENTS FROM LANDMARK MEMBERS

Stephen & Patty Downey, Quispamsis, NB.  We thoroughly enjoy being in LandMark. It is exciting to follow the progress of each horse.

Clause Jorgensen, Mississauga, ON.  Joining LandMark connected me to trainer, Mark Steacy and I now own shares in their horses besides the LandMark horses.

Shelly MacMillan, Waterloo, ON.  LandMark is a great experience, a nice group of people and exciting watching yearlings become racehorses.

Jean Brown Clearwater, Wallkill, NY.  Being in LandMark has been a terrific experience, giving me an opportunity to own racehorses in an affordable and administratively easy way.

Diane McPherson, Edmonton, AB.  In my 14 years in LandMark, I have owned 44 horses. The expertise of trainer, Mark Steacy gives us plenty of exciting races to watch.

Mark McDonald, Kingston, ON.  After 30 years away from racing, I have been able to get back in the business because of fractional ownership’ and LandMark is the logical choice. Buying shares in LandMark is the same as a club membership with the highest of entertainment value.

Ray and Dale Hunt, Niagara Falls, ON.  We have been LandMark members since LandMark 12 and have found it to be fun and entertaining. We enjoy meeting other members, the Steacy family and of course Captain Howard. Visiting and seeing our horses race is the highlight of our year and the feeling that we might have our “dream horse”.

Dave Drew, Grimsby, ON.  LandMark Stable is a simple straight forward way to get involved in harness racing. The Steacys take excellent care of their horses.

Chris Clarridge, Barrie, ON.  LandMark has been a terrific opportunity to stay involved in harness racing at a reasonable cost. Mark Steacy and his family bring a great depth of knowledge in the development and care as yearlings become race horses.

Andrea Sloan, Barrie, ON.  LandMark has given me a chance to feel like a big stable owner at less than the cost of owning one horse.  Even better, I get to share the excitement of watching our horses develop and succeed with many new friends who share my love of horses and racing.
