Q:  What time of year can I purchase shares?

A:  Each year we form a new group and buy yearlings at the fall auctions.  Shares may be purchased in each new group from July to October.

Q:  Will I receive bills of any kind after I buy shares

A:  Never in the 15 year history of LandMark Stables have shareholders been sent a bill.  If a horse is a serious underachiever he/she is sold before they incur additional costs.

Q:  Can I split a share with a friend(s)?

A:  Yes.  Each year a number of shares are shared by multiple people.  Each share must have a principle owner, but he/she can have partners.

Q:  Where does LandMark buy their horses?

A:  Most yearlings are purchased at the fall sales in Ontario, Lexington and Harrisburg.

Q:  Why does LandMark only buy Ontario bred horses?

A:  LandMark has always strongly supported the Ontario Sires Stakes program and race in the Gold and Grassroots events.  Also, licencing in the U.S. for “fractional ownership” groups is extremely complicated except in New Jersey and Kentucky.  However that does not mean LandMark would never purchase a U.S. bread yearling.

Q:  Can I visit the training centres and see the LandMark horses?

A:  Yes.  Both Steacy Stables (Lansdowne and First Line) welcome visitors.  When Covid is not an issue, LandMark has an annual Open House where members can meet their horses, the Steacys and other LandMark members.

Q:  What information do you have on the free shares?

A:  For the past several years, Ontario breeding farms and some industry companies have purchased shares ($2,000 each) to be awarded to harness racing fans.  Therefore each year we hold contests to award the donated shares.

Q:  Do LandMark members take part in the selection of the yearlings that LandMark buys?

A:  No.  The yearlings bought for LandMark are selected and bought by Mark Steacy.  Pedigree is a reason to examine a yearling and conformation is then the reason to buy the yearling.
